What we do
- Deliver the Energy Saving Trust advice centre
We deliver the Energy Saving Trust advice centre for North Yorkshire and the Humber, on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust.
- Manage grant funding and link customers up with installers
Through our partner company 'the Energy Partnership' (EP) we link customers up with accredited local installers, and apply grant funding or discounts (if eligible/available) for installing energy saving measures and renewable technology.
- Deliver environmental projects
S4Y provides strategic support and develops and delivers environmental projects. We coordinate the Hambleton Affordable Warmth project called 'Heating up Hambleton'. We deliver the North Yorkshire Green Business Club and work in partnership with communities in the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales to reduce their carbon footprint and develop understanding of renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable living.
Our history
Originally established as Ryedale Energy Conservation Group Ltd, the company began early operations as an Energy Efficiency Advice Centre for the Ryedale District.
RECG was incorporated as a Local Authority owned, not-for-profit company limited by guarantee in 1993.
Now based in York and having successfully expanded its geographical remit to cover both North Yorkshire and the Humber, a decision was made to change the company name to better reflect this.
In January 2010, RECG was successfully renamed as Sustainability 4 Yorkshire Ltd.
Over the years the company has successfully expanded and diversified into a thriving company providing services to both residents and businesses across North Yorkshire and the Humber.
Services provided are continually reviewed and diversified to ensure that local needs are met with appropriate activities.
Sustainabilty 4 Yorkshire (S4Y) is now widely recognised as the lead organisation that specialises in regional and sub-regional co-ordination, implementation and delivery of environmental and sustainable energy measures.
At a sub-regional level, S4Y works with all nine Local Authorities, the National Parks and with the Sub Regional Investment Planning Team. Strategy is converted into implementation / action through working with a vast range of partners throughout the region and sub region.
In 1998 York Energy Savers was created by the City of York Council and RECG to provide a quality controlled service installing insulation to homes in the City. This project was extended the following year to encompass North Yorkshire and was established as a separate not for profit organisation; The Energy Partnership.
S4Y holds a strong and successful relationship with The Energy Partnership to ensure energy efficient measures are installed to the highest standard.
A by-product of Sustainability 4 Yorkshire is the development of the North Yorkshire Green Business Club. Evolving from The Business Environmental Forum, originally set up in 1997, the North Yorkshire Green Business Club operates under S4Y to support small to medium businesses in reducing their environmental impact.
This field of work has blossomed over the years to include the administration of Yorkshire Forward funded grants and National Park Authority funded assistance to businesses.
Our mission:
"To inspire people, businesses and communities to take positive action on climate change."
