Insulating your home

Around a third of all the heat lost in an un-insulated home is lost through the walls and another 25% through the roof. Floors, walls, lofts, windows and hot water tanks can all be insulated to increase the energy efficiency of a home. Insulation can be one of the most cost-effective ways to cut energy loss and reduce harmful carbon dioxide (C02) emissions.

Each energy efficiency measure you install could save you a significant amount off your fuel bill and more importantly reduce your carbon footprint:

What could I save?

  • Cavity wall insulation can save you up to £115 each year and reduce your C02 emissions by 610kg.

  • Solid wall insulation can save you up to £400 each year and reduce your C02 emissions by 2,000kg for internal insulation and 2,100kg for external insulation.

  • Full loft insulation (270mm) can save you up to £150 each year and reduce your C02 emissions by 800kg.

  • Draught proofing can save you up to £25 each year and reduce your C02 emissions by 130kg.

  • Floor insulation can save you up to £50 each year and reduce your C02 emissions by 270kg.

There are grants and discounts available in your area to help install energy efficient measures.  If you’re over a certain age (typically 60 or 70) or receive certain benefits you may qualify for free or discounted insulation.

Call 0800 512 012 or email advice@est-nyh.org.uk to ask any questions and to apply for any grants you may qualify for.
